The Flatiron Building at 175 Fifth Avenue has been a New York landmark since 1902. Originally called the Fuller Building, the unique triangular lot on which it was built had traditionally been called the Flatiron and the building quickly came to be called by that name. The building is a steel frame structure with a limestone and terra-cotta facade. It was originally equipped with its own generator, generating its own electricity for the lights, power, and original hydraulic elevators. Along with the Empire State Building, the Flatiron is symbolic of the New York skyline.
